English
Our Vision....
At Beccles High School, we believe that English is a window to the world. We take our students on a journey through literary time, exploring writers’ experiences past and present while imagining the possibilities of the future. Reading, writing, and oracy are embedded throughout KS3 and KS4 to foster a love and passion for the subject, creating successful and confident learners. Our students learn to write or a range of purposes, forms, and audiences, equipping them with communication skills that extend far beyond school. By studying an ambitious myriad of texts — including Greek myths, Shakespeare, poetry, plays and contemporary authors — we build the cultural capital that enables students to understand, navigate and contribute to the world around them.
We set high expectations for all learners, ensuring that every student is challenged to think critically, articulate ideas with precision, and engage deeply with complex concepts. Through the study of literature, we open minds and offer ways to understand different perspectives, promoting empathy, respect,
and a richer appreciation of society and culture. Our curriculum empowers students not only to interpret the world but to shape it with confidence and curiosity.
