Careers and Next Steps

‘Our vision at Beccles High School is very simple: we want to give students the very best start in life that we can’

This whole‑school commitment is woven into our inclusive careers programme, which starts in Year 7 and supports students as they grow, explore opportunities, and shape their ambitions.

What sets our CEIAG (Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) programme apart

At Beccles High School, we believe every student deserves access to high‑quality careers education that opens doors, broadens horizons, and builds confidence for the future. Our programme is designed to be inclusive, ambitious, and genuinely impactful — giving students the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to make informed choices about their next steps.

Personalised careers guidance

Every student receives their own Unifrog account from Year 7, giving them a powerful platform to explore career pathways, track their skills development, and record meaningful encounters with employers and providers. This growing portfolio becomes a valuable foundation for CVs, applications, and future planning.

Our Level 6 qualified Careers Advisor is a key part of school life and is always available for guidance. In addition to scheduled one‑to‑one meetings for all Year 10 and 11 students, they offer drop‑in support whenever students or caregivers need it.

Real‑world experience

We are proud to offer a full week of work experience for every Year 10 student, giving them the chance to develop confidence, independence, and insight into the workplace. We are also committed to meeting national expectations for work experience, including those outlined in the Post‑16 Education and Skills White Paper (2025), which requires students to complete a minimum of two weeks of work experience during secondary education.

Encounters with employers and providers

Our annual Careers Fair brings more than 30 employers, training providers, colleges, and universities into school. Every student attends during the school day, and parents are warmly invited to join us too.

Students in Years 10 and 11 also take part in mock interviews with volunteers from a wide range of industries and further education settings. These interviews help students practise communication skills, build confidence, and receive personalised feedback.

Careers woven through the curriculum

A rich programme of assemblies, employer‑led workshops, and classroom activities brings the world of work directly to our students. These encounters help them understand how their learning connects to real careers and highlight the transferable skills that employers value.

Careers education is embedded throughout our PSHE curriculum, ensuring students receive structured, age‑appropriate guidance every year. Additional resources are always available on Unifrog, allowing students to explore topics in greater depth whenever they choose.

All students automatically have an account. Parents are able to register for their account too. Please use the contact form above if you have trouble accessing the platform
